    Health and Safety
    Occupational exposure limits to cement are recommended in the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In terms of the time weighted average occupational exposure limit, the recommended limit for total inhalable dust is 10 mg/m3, and the respirable recommended limit is 5 mg/m3. Direct skin contact for extended periods can result in severe burns. It is therefore recommended that suitable attire be worn to prevent dust inhalation and direct skin contact. Hazards / Symptoms Prevention Fire Extinguishing and First Aid. Inhalation: Demarcate dust areas with zebra lines and/or appropriate signage. Use dust mask in accordance with SANS 50149 Remove exposed person to fresh air. If airways become inflamed, seek medical advice. Skin: Wear gloves and long sleeves. Wash with water and non-sensitising. Eyes: Wear fully sealing eye protection. Wash eyes with large volumes of water. Ingestion: Do not eat in areas exposed to cement dust. Ingestion in harmful quantities is unlikely to occur. If ingested drink plenty of water and consult a doctor immediately. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Other: Wet cement or concrete: Suitable protective clothing to prevent contact due to caustic nature. Treat as per caustic burns.  
    Safety
    Dust mask where TLV is exceeded. Wear eye shielding. Any type of glove which prevents contact with the product. Guidlines printed on bag.Don’t lift cement bags using your back - use your legs. Don’t drag cement bags over rough surfaces. Don’t use old sugar or fertilizer bags to store loose cement in. Don’t walk over stored cement bags. Don’t stack more than 12 bags on top of each other, or more than two pallets high. Don’t use cement containing lumps that cannot be broken easily with ones fingers.  
    Storage
    Cement bags are not weatherproof and should be stored indoors, tightly packed together under cover, off the ground to a maximum heighof 12 bags.The best way to store your PPC Cement is in a dry enclosed area, off the floor on a wooden pallet or on plastic sheeting. Store cement bags in a dry place. Store the bags on pallets off the floor. Use the oldest cement first (FIFO principle). Separate different types of cements to avoid mistakes and contamination.
